Can You Reuse a Rented LinkedIn Profile for a New Client?

Yes, as a planned changeover: close out the old client, re-brief the profile and restart slowly. When reuse works and when a new profile is the better call.

Short answer: yes, you can move a rented LinkedIn profile from one client to another, but treat it as a planned changeover, not a quick swap. Close out the old client’s conversations, re-brief the profile for the new persona, and restart sending slowly. If the new client sells into the same market as the old one, order a fresh profile instead.

What You Can Change on an AIA Profile

Every AIA avatar profile is editable. You can change the banner, the about section, the headline, the featured section, the current role and company, the one to three previous experience entries, and the listed skills. That is everything a prospect reads when they check who is messaging them, so a profile can be re-briefed to represent a different client without starting from zero.

What you cannot change is the profile’s history. Its existing connections, past conversations and the people who already saw it represent the previous client stay with the profile.

How to Hand a Profile Over Cleanly

  1. Finish the old client’s work first. Answer or hand over every open conversation, and export anything the old client is owed under your agreement with them.
  2. Pause sending for a few days. Do not run the old and new campaigns in parallel on the same profile.
  3. Update the profile like a real job change. Add the new role and company, move the old role into past experience, and rewrite the headline and about section for the new persona. Before you save, switch off the option to notify your network about the change, so the old client’s prospects are not told about it.
  4. Restart slowly. Treat the first week like a new lane: low daily volume, a fresh suppression list for the new client, and messages you have read yourself. We recommend no more than 20 connection requests a day per profile in any case.

Reuse or Order a New Profile?

Pricing is per profile per month with no contracts, from the AIA pricing page, so reusing a profile mainly saves the profile’s age and network, not a setup fee.

When Reuse Is a Bad Idea

  • The new client competes with the old one. Prospects who spoke to the profile as one company’s representative will notice when it starts selling a rival.
  • The profile is mid-conversation. If deals the old client cares about are still open in its inbox, keep the profile on that client until they close.
  • The persona does not fit. A profile built as a finance voice for European buyers will not convincingly become a developer voice for US startups. Edit what you can, but order a profile that matches when the gap is large.

FAQ

Can one profile represent two clients at the same time? We advise against it. Prospects can see the profile’s current role, and two clients’ messages from one inbox is hard to keep straight. Use one profile per client lane.

Do the profile’s connections stay after the change? Yes. Connections belong to the profile, which is why the profile keeps its age and reach. It is also why a profile moving into the same market as before is risky. Our post on what a rented profile keeps if it is restricted covers who owns conversations and connections more broadly.

Will LinkedIn flag a sudden job change? A job change on its own is normal on LinkedIn. What looks unusual is a profile that changes role and immediately sends at full volume. The pause and slow restart are there for that reason.

Can AIA help re-brief the profile? Tell us the new persona and client before you edit anything, and we can talk through whether to edit the current profile or order a new one.
